Artist Statement

My work is all about sustainability and upcycling, with a heavy focus on contemporary streetwear aesthetics. Denim is my main material, and I love working with it because it’s so versatile, offering endless possibilities for innovation. Denim has a long history dating back to the 17th century and though it has evolved over time, it has managed to keep its relevance over centuries. Denim continues to reinvent itself while maintaining its roots in rebellion and individual expression. Currently, denim remains a timeless and essential fabric in the streetwear community, symbolizing authenticity, craftsmanship and personal style.

Despite being one of the most widely used materials in fashion, less than 1 percent of denim is recycled because of the metal hardware like buttons and rivets, and the need for extensive sorting and removal of non-textile components that make jeans difficult to reuse. I incorporate every part of denim, including the buttons, zippers, seams and pockets. By doing this, I transform what would otherwise be considered waste into integral components of my designs. In addition, I incorporate industrial elements such as grommets and chains, giving the designs a distinct edge that speaks to my passion for individuality.

The heart of Jurses By Jadie is a reflection of my personal aesthetic, an embrace of the unconventional which sets it apart from the mainstream. The word "Jurse" is a blend of "Jean" and "Purse," and its playful nature mirrors my personality, which is often characterized by my wit and a sense of humor. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind creation which is a testament to the uniqueness of recycled materials. By working with limited resources, I intentionally remove myself from the cycle of mass production, emphasizing the beauty of individuality. My goal is to continue to expand my brand while remaining committed to eco-conscious design and responsible material use.

This approach reflects my passion and commitment to sustainable fashion and the environmental dedication that drives my brand, Jurses By Jadie. Created from a desire to reduce the fashion industry’s ecological footprint, my work aims to find innovative solutions that reduce waste while reimagining the possibilities of repurposed or upcycled materials.
